Letters from Real Estate IT Boot Camp: Day 13.

by Michael Musgrove on February 11, 2012

I’m currently integrating three websites that I plan on using for some of my real estate business in Louisville, Kentucky. I’ve been posting recently about all the technological knowledge one must have to compete in the “modern” real estate world. My background in information technology architecture is about what one would expect from an English major and MBA. Translation: zilch.

Fortunately I’m very interested in SEM and SEO and social media marketing and all that, but I can see how companies cringe at the thought of mass IT integration when I come in as a marketing consultant, and tell them that is what needs to be done first and foremost. Fortunately for my clients that usually is not job Uno.

In the process of setting up my real estate business websites, I have gotten to expand on my knowledge of CSS HTML, HTML5, and XML. I decided to use the Thesis theme on my sites so there’s a whole new software package to basically learn right there as well, since it has its own proprietary coding. It’s still the best for me, however.

I have gotten to hone my Photoshop skills in illustrator, fireworks, CSS5, Dreamweaver, and a few others in the Adobe suite. I have mad FTP skills. I’ve become familiar with website design beyond those people’s wildest imaginations. The psychology behind searching, visual cues on websites and how to direct eyes around the page are on my radar now. I know the psychology of colorings, verbal phrasings and and consumer behavior (which I knew a lot about before anyway because of my marketing experience).

So that’s where I am with that. The mess behind the proverbial curtain is enormous right now, but I plan on having it all  streamlined, at least, in a week.

The search for a broker’s about to get intense. I received five letters today alone from local Louisville real estate brokerages wanting to talk to me. there are a few realtors, a movable always speak with first and I plan on talking to many brokers to find the best one that lines up with my business plan as well as theirs. I have been in the real estate business before so I know who my competitors are about to be. I also know that there is a HUGE churn in this business, so finding someone that will be successful long-term is like finding a needle in haystack for the brokers.

Anyway, that’s where it stands as of this Saturday afternoon. I have vector logos to work on as well as newsletter templates, landing pages, and a marketing plan for a client I need to work on.

Bottom line: there are about to be some really big changes to this site as well as my others as I integrate my brand and streamline my real estate marketing plan for Louisville.
